Slim Bates

Slim passed away on January 15, 2024. The cause was cancer.Slim was the bravest and toughest soul we have ever known. His was a magnificent spirit hobbled by a fragile body.In 2015 we adopted Slim after he was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Ohio. Soon after crossing into Canada, while with his foster, Slim developed a severe skin condition. In time it was disgnosed as an auto-immune condition: canine vasculitis. His immune system was attacking his blood vessels.The drug that controlled the vasculitis was prednisone. But long-term prednisone comes with its own costs.Slim had many health challenges over the years, most connected to the inflammation and prednisone.But he was always a brave and happy dog, the alpha and boss of our home. We loved him more than words can express. Slim was the centre of our family.Losing him has been a hard blow. Every day his absence is felt.Slim, we will love you forever.
